DETROIT – Miguel Cabrera hit his first home run of the season Thursday against Minnesota Twins right-hander Phil Hughes.
Cabrera struggled in the Detroit Tigers' first eight games of the season, posting a .107 batting average, .242 on-base percentage and .350 OPS. He went without an extra-base hit while going just 3-28 with nine strikeouts.

But he jumped on the first pitch he saw Thursday, smacking it into the right-field bleachers for his first RBI of the season. The homer put the Tigers ahead 1-0 as they try to sweep the Twins at Comerica Park.

Cabrera is now 20-45 in his career against Hughes, with seven home runs and five doubles.
