NEW YORK – The Detroit Pistons have selected Tennessee Volunteers guard Chaz Lanier with the No. 37 pick in the NBA draft.

Pistons President Trajan Langdon spoke to the media on Tuesday (June 24), stating that the team will not be overly aggressive during the draft process and into free agency.

With the selection of Lanier in the second round, they’re staying to their word as they’re focusing more on in-house development than trading for a high-priced player who is already established.

The last time Detroit selected a pick at No. 37 was last year when they jumped up 16 spots to select Sweden forward Bobi Klintman.

With their only pick in the draft, Detroit addressed a need, specifically shooting, as Lanier is a pure shooter who set a school record with 123 three-pointers made during his senior season.

Lanier took more shots off screens during his final collegiate season than any player in college basketball and converted them at a high pace.

The 6′4″ 24-year-old wing player averaged 18 points per game while knocking down 40% from beyond the arc.

With the expected free agency of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley, if they decide to chase greener pastures, look for Lanier to fit in as a floor spacer during the 2025-26 season.
