Identical twins, identical drive: Boman brothers set tone for Clarkston High School football season

Numbers one and zero pack a punch on both sides of the ball for Clarkston High School

CLARKSTON, Mich. – Great players are often described as a “one-two punch.”

Numbers one and zero pack a punch on both sides of the ball for Clarkston High School.

Lukas and Griffin Boman also go by a different moniker: the Bash Brothers.

“Someone wrote that in the paper a couple of years ago,” said Wolves head coach Justin Pintar. “They’re physical. They’re fast. They don’t shy away from contact. ‘Bash Brothers’ stuck and it’s been there ever since.”

The senior leaders share more than a competitive spirit and tenacious style of play.

The duo, who play running back and linebacker, committed to Division II national champion Ferris State together, and were born two minutes apart—identical siblings, along with triplet sister Trinity.

“As we’ve grown up, we’ve been doing everything together,” Lukas said. “It’s special going through that journey with him, growing as a person and a football player.”

Their athletic journey began on the field a decade ago.

It has continued under the guidance of coach Justin Pintar, who marvels at the way they push their teammates and each other.

“Once that ball is snapped, it is 100 miles an hour,” Pintar said. “There’s never a time where we’ve put on film and go, ‘man, Lukas isn’t going hard’ or ‘Griff isn’t going hard.’ That just doesn’t happen. It’s been that way since they came up with us as freshmen. They’re funny when they get together and they start talking.”

Indeed, the brothers are afraid of nothing, including constructive criticism from each other.

“Oh, you missed the cutback; you’re supposed to go inside on that. Stuff like that,” Griffin said.

“We got each other’s best interests in mind. When I’m telling him something, I really mean it,” Lukas added. “Sometimes the coaches won’t say it, but then I’ll be the one to say it to him even if he doesn’t want to hear it.”

They’ll continue to be a package deal as playmakers at the next level, committed to bringing out the best in each other forever.

Clarkston opens the season Thursday (Aug. 28) at 4 p.m. against Belleville.
