On Sunday, Trump became the first sitting president to attend a regular-season NFL game since 1978. Veterans Day is Tuesday, and Trump is involved in the Commanders’ new stadium situation.
At the time of the third-quarter interview, the Lions were crushing the Commanders, 32-10.
Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma asked the president about his high school football career, when he played tight end. They also talked about his experience at the game Sunday and the difficulty of playing in today’s NFL.
As the Commanders drove down the field, Trump didn’t talk much specifically about the Lions. But he did comment on the Matthew Stafford trade that helped kick off this recent run of Lions success.
“I think Detroit’s been amazing,” Trump said. “That trade was such a great trade for both teams. For L.A. and Detroit.”
The Commanders ran a play inside the five-yard line at that moment, so the conversation about Detroit was cut off. They scored a few plays later to make it 32-16.
