DETROIT – The Motor City Cruise will give aspiring professional basketball players another chance to earn a spot in the NBA G League this fall.
The Detroit Pistons’ G League affiliate announced on Tuesday (Aug. 4) it will host a one-day open player tryout on Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center.

The tryout begins at noon ET, with participants competing for an invitation to the Motor City Cruise’s training camp in October.
Players will participate in NBA-style drills and scrimmages in front of Pistons and Motor City Cruise basketball operations personnel.
Registration is available online through the team’s website.
The non-refundable registration fee is $250, and participants will receive a reversible tryout jersey to keep, along with two tickets to a selected Motor City Cruise home game during the 2026-27 season.
Space is limited, and registration closes at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Under NBA G League rules, each team may invite up to three players from its local open tryout to training camp.
The Cruise have used the tryout process to identify talent in previous seasons.
Detroit native John Ukomadu became the first player to earn a training camp invitation through an open tryout, make the roster and complete a full season with the franchise.
Ukomadu later won the 2026 NBA G League Slam Dunk Contest.
Other players who have earned opportunities with the Cruise through open tryouts include Malique Jacobs, Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe, Symir Torrence, Brian Taylor and former Wayne State standout Ray Williams Jr.
The Motor City Cruise will enter their sixth season in the NBA G League in 2026-27 and are scheduled to play 24 home games at Wayne State Fieldhouse beginning in November.
