Grand Rapids native Devin Booker launches Nike Book 2 sneaker collection ahead of Woodward Dream Cruise

The shoe will receive a global release Aug. 26

DETROIT – Grand Rapids native and NBA All-Star Devin Booker and Nike have announced the Book 2, a four-sneaker collection inspired by Booker’s vintage Chevrolet Impalas and his longtime connection to classic cars.

The first sneaker in the collection, “Pretty Penny,” will receive an early release in Detroit on Saturday, Aug. 15, during the Woodward Dream Cruise.

The shoe will receive a global release Aug. 26.

The collection follows last year’s sold-out Book 1 collaboration, which was inspired by Booker’s collection of classic Chevrolet Blazers.

The Book 2 collection also highlights Booker’s Michigan roots and passion for Chevrolet.

Booker was born in Grand Rapids and spent his early school years there before moving to Mississippi for high school.

“Pretty Penny” takes its color scheme from Booker’s 1959 Chevrolet Impala convertible, which helped spark his interest in collecting vintage vehicles.

Each sneaker in the Book 2 collection is inspired by one of Booker’s Impalas.

The designs match the paint colors of the vehicles and incorporate details from the cars, including tongue tops designed to match each vehicle’s hood ornament.

The four sneakers represent Impalas from the 1958, 1959, 1962, and 1963 model years.

The collection also includes a “Heartbeat of America” T-shirt inspired by Chevrolet’s advertising campaign from the 1980s and 1990s.

The sneakers will come in custom packaging inspired by Chevrolet’s midcentury vintage accessory packaging, featuring kraft-paper construction, teal-and-orange graphics, and oversized lettering.

The remaining three Book 2 sneakers are scheduled for release in December.

Detroit release during Woodward Dream Cruise

The “Pretty Penny” release will coincide with the Woodward Dream Cruise, an annual celebration of classic car culture along Woodward Avenue.

Fans in Detroit can enter through the SNKRS Pass on Friday, Aug. 14, for a chance to reserve the shoes ahead of the limited release.

Winning entrants can pick up their sneakers Saturday at Burn Rubber, 512 N. Main St. No. 102 in Royal Oak.

Booker’s “Pretty Penny” will be part of a classic-car weekend expected to bring thousands of vintage vehicles to Woodward Avenue.

The Woodward Dream Cruise attracts participants from across North America to Metro Detroit to travel along a 16-mile stretch of historic Woodward Avenue.

Booker’s Michigan and Chevrolet roots

Booker has been a longtime Chevrolet enthusiast and has collected numerous vintage General Motors vehicles.

His collection includes multiple classic Impalas, three 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazers and several Buick GNX models. His daily driver is a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison.

Booker also appeared at the 2021 reveal of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Last year’s Book 1 collaboration with Chevrolet and Nike incorporated Booker’s interest in classic vehicles through sneakers and apparel inspired by his vintage Chevrolet K5 Blazers.

The Book 2 collection expands on that concept, focusing on Booker’s Impalas and incorporating design details from each vehicle into the sneakers.
