ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan football team moved up to No. 8 in the AP Poll after its opening week win over then-No. 17 Florida in Dallas.
Michigan football was ranked No. 11 in the preseason poll, but moved up three spots because of its 33-17 victory against the two-time defending SEC East champions. Florida dropped to No. 22 in the latest rankings.

The Wolverines were the most upcoming team in the top 15. Only Virginia Tech, which rose from No. 21 to No. 18, and Washington State, which rose from No. 24 to No. 20, improved as much as Michigan.
Four Big Ten teams are ranked in this week's top 10, with Ohio State at No. 2, Penn State at No. 4, Michigan at No. 8 and Wisconsin at No. 9.
Maryland, Northwestern, Iowa, Nebraska and Michigan State also received votes, but did not crack the top 25.
TCU and Notre Dame moved into the top 25 at No. 23 and No. 24, respectively. Texas and West Virginia fell out of the rankings.

Michigan received 1,051 votes, which is just behind Washington for the No. 7 spot. There's a large gap in points between Washington and the top six, and another sizeable gap between Michigan and Wisconsin.
