Grosse Pointe Shores man receives hate mail because of Black Lives Matter sign
GROSSE POINTE SHORES, Mich. โ A local attorney who was recently ticketed for his Black Lives Matter sign now has a new set of problems. While the ticket was thrown out, Todd Perkins is dealing with hate mail being sent to his home. Inside the letter sent to his Grosse Pointe Shores home was a poem full of racial slurs and signage designed to be a jab at his Black Lives Matter sign in the front yard. Why do people think that Black Lives Suck,โ said Perkins. There was a return address on the hate mail sent to Perkins.
Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit scraps cash bail
ANN ARBOR โ Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit announced Monday that the Prosecutorโs Office will eliminate the use of cash bail in any case. Savit, who took office on Jan. 1, alerted staff Monday morning in a 20-page policy directive. The move has made Washtenaw County the first jurisdiction in the state to eliminate cash bail. Washington, D.C. and New Jersey have stopped seeking cash bail, as well as the city of San Francisco and counties in Vermont and Virginia. According to the directive, cash bail places poorer people at risk of losing their jobs, homes and can place serious harm on children of defendants.
Warren City Council refuses to pay nearly $5 million in city bills over conflict with administration
WARREN, Mich. โ The Warren City Council is refusing to pay nearly $5 million in city bills because the administration wonโt pay for legal services that Mayor Jim Fouts says the council sought โillegallyโ earlier this year. The council voted on Dec. 8 not to pay city bills until the city paid a legal firm that was hired by the council in May. Warren City Attorney Ethan Vinson argues that the city council โexceeded the scopeโ of its authority when securing an attorney from Plunkett Cooney on May 12. The City Council is litigating the tax rates, city budget issues, and other matters in this lawsuit. The city council is committed to paying all city vendors and contractors as this is our legal obligation.
Owner of dog fatally shot by Detroit officer files lawsuit
DETROIT One local woman is suing an officer and the City of Detroit after her dog was shot and killed. The officer fatally shot the dog as police were searching the neighborhood for a robber. The owner of the dog says she cant even sit on her porch anymore because it is a reminder of the incident. Then the officer pulled her gun out, shot and killed Chino before Whites daughter could get there. Before she even got to the front as she went to the step Chino was shot already.
