A Michigan driver reached speeds of nearly 120 mph and cut through a corn field during a police chase that ended when he crashed into a water-filled drainage ditch and jumped into a pond, officials said.

ATTICA TOWNSHIP, MI -- An Attica man has been charged with fleeing and eluding after leading police on a chase reaching triple digits in Lapeer County, police said. A 2011 Chevy Malibu was headed 86 miles per hour east on Bowers Road, a 55 MPH speed zone. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop for deputies and increased its speed to approximately 100 MPH, according to a Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office news release. The pursuit lasted about two minutes with the vehicle and deputies traveling approximately four miles, police said. Munger was lodged at the Lapeer County Jail.

A driver reached speeds of up to 100 mph while fleeing Lapeer County deputies, but stopped after two minutes and was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.

IMLAY TWP, MI — A traffic crash has killed one person in Lapeer County. About 8:17 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash scene on Van Dyke (M-53) south of Bowers Road in Imlay Township. About a quarter of a mile to the south of Bowers Road, Griffith’s vehicle crossed the centerline and partially entered the northbound lane, police said. An off-duty Lapeer County EMS paramedic at the collision managed to free an unresponsive Griffith and start CPR on her. Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Imlay City Fire and Rescue, Michigan State Police troopers from the Lapeer Post, Lapeer County EMS Ambulance Service, Lapeer County Road Commission, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Reconstruction Division, Yakes Towing in North Branch, and Paul’s Collision in Almont.

The crash happened at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday on Bowers Road west of Lake Pleasant Road in Attica Township, according to authorities. A bus dropping off Imlay City Elementary School students was stopped facing east on Bowers Road, police said. A 2002 Ford F-150 heading east on Bowers Road crashed into the back of the bus without braking, officials said.
