Clearing the roads of all the snow is a big job, and it’s becoming an even more challenging task with the ongoing worker shortages. Some Road Commissions have to look outside the department to get things done.

SAGINAW, MI — Officials with the Saginaw Transit Authority and Regional Services (STARS) say they hope to entice new hires with a $500 hiring bonus between now and Friday, Oct. 1. About 30 job openings — including bus drivers, mechanics and administrative staff members — are available at the transit service, officials say. The offer includes free commercial drivers license (CDL) training from STARS. Prospective employees can find a list of the job openings on the STARS website.
