Kalamazoo’s Water Street Coffee Joint moving its kitchen into former MacKenzies Bakery downtown
KALAMAZOO, MI — Water Street Coffee Joint is expanding its downtown footprint. Smutek later sold the brand to Vicksburg native Chris Moore, who plans to open Mackenzies Vicksburg later this year with the intentional, albeit slight, name change. While any possible expansion plans are being kept under Smutek’s hat at this time, Water Street Coffee Joint office manager Aaron Clay did say that with the opening of the new kitchen space — the first outright owned kitchen for the company since it was founded in 1993 — new menu options will appear this fall. As they neared the conclusion of the lease at the Elm Valley Road location, the purchase of MacKenzie’s Bakery came at the right time, Clay said. “Since the purchase, we’ve been working on this new space at the Harrison Street building,” he said.mlive.com

For his latest exhibition, Moore re-writes lyrics from the past 25 years of his songwriting over his paintings.
