Hartland Schools graduate is one of the students injured in Michigan State University shootings
EAST LANSING, MI -- One of the five people seriously injured in the Michigan State University mass shooting is a Hartland Consolidated Schools graduate, the district’s superintendent said. Hartland Schools Superintendent Chuck Hughes, in a Feb. 15 letter to the community, said that a 2020 graduate of the district was injured in the shooting. They have not identified the injured students, although the family of one established a GoFundMe page to help her. HOWELL, MI - Howell Public Schools has been added to the state of Michigan’s COVID-19 school-related outbreak list, with the district reporting 14 cases in students and staff at Howell High School. The district has reported 35 COVID-19 cases since it began the school year on Aug. 18, including 10 cases at Parker Middle School that were reported Monday, Aug. 30. Livingston County currently has a “high” rate of COVID-19 transmission with 214 cases per 100,000 residents. In addition to the 122 students in quarantine from Round Elementary, more than 200 other students across the district were also quarantined. LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI -- Hartland Consolidated Schools Superintendent Chuck Hughes has instituted a mask policy for Round Elementary School after six students had probable or positive cases of COVID-19 and 122 others were put under quarantine. There has also been one case each at Village Elementary School, Hartland Middle School and among district-wide staff. In addition to the 122 students in quarantine from Round Elementary, more than 200 other students across the district are also quarantined. Hughes also addressed an air conditioning issue at Hartland High School that led to classes being cancelled on Friday due to high temperatures in the building. The chiller arrived on Friday morning, Aug. 27, according to a post on Hartland Schools’ Twitter page.
