The Frankenmuth sophomore crushed two homers Saturday, leading the fifth-ranked Eagles to a 10-0 five-inning win over a sixth-ranked Clio team that beat Frankenmuth, 2-1, exactly one week earlier. “I wasn’t surprised we won, but I think everybody was expecting a 2-1 or 3-2 game,” Frankenmuth coach Brad Walraven said. But with Brooklyn Compau at first to lead off the second inning, Schafsnitz cleared the 200-foot fence in centerfield to give Frankenmuth a 2-0 lead. KOCHVILLE TWP, MI — More details have emerged regarding two fires at a haunted attraction in rural Saginaw County, the first allegedly started by a marooned Clio woman. At the scene was a 27-year-old Clio woman with a lighter in her pocket, said Saginaw County Sheriff William L. Federspiel. The woman then apparently walked to the Wild Woods, a distance of nearly four miles. The Wild Woods had been closed for several years before the fires. KOCHVILLE TWP, MI — A Clio woman is in custody after allegedly starting a fire at a haunted attraction in Saginaw County, a fire that resumed burning nearly 12 hours later. On scene was a 27-year-old woman, the same woman associated with the car on the Zilwaukee Bridge, Kolb said. About 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, a passerby on Venoy Road spotted more flames at the Wild Woods and notified Saginaw County Central Dispatch. The arrested woman’s name is being withheld pending arraignment in Saginaw County District Court. Hundreds of students arrived at Venue One Eleven in Holly to show off their long-awaited 2022 prom attire. This year’s theme was, “A Walk to Remember.” said high school principal Kevin Ayre. “It’s a lot of nostalgia for me in a way watching these kids tonight,” said high school principal Kevin Ayre. After scrimmaging against Carrollton, Clio head coach Nick Barton was intrigued enough to learn more about the Cavaliers. The homework paid off, with Barton taking over as the new football coach at Carrollton.

VIENNA TWP., MI – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has charged a mother with second-degree child abuse in connection with an incident at a Clio-area elementary school that left more than a dozen students ill and five students hospitalized. Her six-year-old child then took them to school and other students ingested them. She made a mistake, but it’s a mistake that has caused a lot of havoc.”Second-degree child abuse in Michigan is a 10-year felony. First responders were called to the elementary school around 1 p.m. Friday, April 29, after several students reported to their teacher that they were feeling ill.Students were evacuated from the school as another form of caution. According to the letter, five kindergarten students from one classroom were transported to Hurley Medical Center in Flint.

The gummies came from a licensed marijuana processor named Sky Labs in Mount Morris, a company that specializes in making edibles. Boquette doesn’t know why the marijuana products in question are on hold. However, licensed safety labs already tested samples of the on-hold products for the presence of solvents, Boquette said. “They do these for months and months and months at a time,” she said. Sky Labs claimed the underreporting was due to a data entry error.

Morris Township Police Chief Michael Veach said Monday that high speeds were a significant factor in the crash. Morris Township are investigating a two-vehicle crash late Monday morning near the intersection of Clio and Stanley roads. The crash was reported to police at 11:57 a.m. Monday, March 14, according to Genesee County Central Dispatch. Morris Township police said the Michigan State Police crash reconstruction team had been called to the scene to assist. Morris Township police were called to the scene along with the Mt. VIENNA TWP., MI—Fire crews from several area departments battled a fire at a home north of Clio for several hours early Thursday morning. When crews arrived, they noticed a fire in the basement of the home, Clio Fire Chief Jim Bronson said. Morris Fire Department, Mt. FLINT – Three Flint-area teams won district wrestling championships Thursday. Goodrich and Clio won in Division 2 while New Lothrop won in Division 4. New Lothrop finished second in the Division 4 state tournament last season. Five area teams won district titles Wednesday, meaning there will be eight local teams in next week’s regional tournaments. FLINT – Taryn Eckert of Clio, Alexander Hect of Swartz Creek, Olivia Dirkse of Davison and Jacob Gonzales of Holly have been named the Kiwanis Club of Flint’s Student-Athletes of the Month for December and January. Eckert plays volleyball and soccer at Clio. She was a four-year varsity player in volleyball, serving as team captain the past three years and making first-team all-league the last three years. She was honorable mention All-State as a senior, when she was named the Mustangs’ best defender.

A Michigan man is facing 21 criminal charges after he sexually assaulted a girl for nearly a year after her 14th birthday and threatened to kill her and her family when she tried to cut ties with him, according to the attorney general.

SAGINAW, MI — Before her 20th birthday, a Clio woman has been charged with murder in the recent homicide of a wheelchair-bound man found deceased in his burned Birch Run Township home. Saginaw County District Judge Terry L. Clark on the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 26, arraigned Faith A. Lord on charges of felony murder and felony firearm. Saginaw County Jail records indicate a fourth suspect was arrested by deputies later on Tuesday. “Scott was a member of the Birch Run United Methodist Church and the Arbor Day Society,” his obituary states. FLINT – Four Flint-area teams are still alive in the boys state soccer tournament, which resumes today with regional games around the state. In Division 2, Clio and Fenton remain in the hunt for a state title and could meet for a regional championship if both win today at Fenton. In Division 3, Powers Catholic and Imlay City will play regional semifinal games tonight at Mason. The state semifinals are Wednesday Nov. 3 and the championship games are Saturday, Nov. 6 at Comstock Park and Novi. FLINT – Runner-up Fenton put six runners on the All-Flint Metro League boys cross country team while league champion Linden has five as well as the coach of the year, Trevor Hall. The 2021 team was selected by league coaches. Linden finished first with 47 points after winning the second jamboree as well as the league meet. Fenton was two points back after finishing second in the league meet and second jamboree. Flushing senior Blake Chipman helped the Raiders finish fourth in the Flint Metro League cross country standings.

FLINT – Three Flint-area teams won district soccer championships Wednesday to advance to next week’s regional round. Powers Catholic and Imlay City advanced in Division 3 while Clio moved on Division 2.

THETFORD TOWNSHIP, MI -- A 44-year-old Clio man died in a single-vehicle crash in Genesee County Tuesday, which police say was separate from a road rage incident that occurred minutes before in the same area. Minutes before this crash, there was a separate “road rage incident” between two parties driving down North Dort Highway, Vetter said. The two parties in this incident ended up in a ditch off of near the telephone pole the victim in the single-vehicle crash later hit. The crash left more than 1,000 people in parts of Vienna Township, Clio and Thetford Township without power for several hours Tuesday.

FLINT – Jeremy Williams of Lapeer and Mary Richmond of Frankenmuth were the boys and girls winners in the 5,000 meter porition of the Greater Flint Cross Country Championships at the Cummings Center in Mt. Williams clocked 15:27.20 to finish more than 20 seconds ahead of Davison’s Brady McArdle, who had a time of 15:47.98. Rounding out the boys top 10 behind Williams and McArdle were Flushing’s Blake Chipman, Linden’s Kyle Eberhard, Davison’s Kenny Minto, Linden’s River Meckstroth, Lapeer’s Michael Williams, Fenton’s Michael Crane and the Powers duo of Lucas Danic and Chase Dietrich. In the girls 5,000 meters, Richmond won with a time of 18:09.93 while twin sisters Lola and Sophia Thomas of Grand Blanc were second and third, respectively, with times of 18:45.06 and 19:08.76. Ortonville Brandon is undefeated, ranked fifth in the state and now has the Detroit Lions Coach of the Week. The Blackhawks are 4-0 after knocking off Clio, 55-0, in Week 4, earning Brad Zube the Detroit Lions’ honor. Each week during the 2021 high school football regular season, the Detroit Lions will select a high school Coach of the Week, awarding the coach’s football program a $1,000 donation. The program is in its 25th year and has awarded $467,000 to Michigan high school football programs. GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- Two Kearsley elementary schools and one Clio elementary school have closed today due to power outages in the district after last night’s storms. Both Dowdall and Fiedler Elementary are closed today due to outages at Kearsley Community Schools. Power should be restored this afternoon, according to an update from the district. Lacure Elementary in Clio is also closed due to a power outage, according to the district. An incident was reported just after 9 a.m. after flooding at Lacure Elementary on the Genesee County dispatch active events page.

CHESANING, MI — The second location of a Clio-based Mexican restaurant opened this week with all the authentic eats. Don Felipe Mexican Restaurant, located at 120 West Broad St., in Chesaning, opened its doors on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The dishes are created with traditional Jalisco recipes, Vizcarra said. The menu offerings will be similar to the first restaurant, Vizcarra said, with burritos, enchiladas, tacos, and fajitas. With a record-tying performance and a milestone achievement, the Warriors sent everybody home from The Cornfield sensing that a new day has dawned for Bay City Western football. “Winning football games helps build the culture, and I’m happy to be part of this culture,” Western senior Dylan Reynolds said. After succeeding on the freshman and junior varsity levels, the senior class made it a mission to get the Western program firmly on track.

BAY CITY, MI -- For the first time in about three years, the Bay City John Glenn football team rung the victory bell. John Glenn hosted Clio in the high school football season-opener Friday, Aug. 27 at Albert E. Johnson Stadium in Bay City. John Glenn won 49-20. The game was the coaching debut of both John Glenn head coach Jon Horton and Clio head coach Nick Barton. CLIO – New coach Nick Barton isn’t going to try and rebuild Clio’s football program from the ground up. “The big thing is building from the from the basement up,” said Barton, who was the offensive coordinator at Bay City Western last season before getting Clio’s top job. “It was kind of a funny situation,” said Barton, who was previously a head coach at Bay City All Saints. BAY CITY, MI – The first day of high school practice is Aug. 9 and it’s time to start talking football. Five Bay County teams took that opportunity recently at the 2021 MLive Bay City High School Football Media Day, hosted at The Wanigan Eatery, 1905 S. Wenona along the Saginaw River. We requested the coaches to ask each attendee a football question and got some good ones. FLINT – Holly was rewarded with 12 selections to the All-Flint Metro League girls tennis team after winning the regular season championship and league tournament. The Broncos had a 7-1-1 dual meet record and won tournament to nip second-place Swartz Creek by two points in the final standings. Holly had six players on the first team and six on the second. Swartz Creek (7-2) put 10 players on the all-league team that included five on the first team. Here is the team selected by league coaches.

FLINT – Linden put nine players on the All-Flint Metro League girls soccer team after winning the championship with an 11-0 record. Flushing and Lake Fenton, which finished second and third, had six players apiece on the team. Flushing went 10-1 in Metro games and Lake Fenton was 9-2. Here is the team selected by league coaches. Clio’s Taryn Eckert was a first-team selection to the All-Metro League soccer team.

FLINT – After cruising to the league championship, Corunna dominated the All-Flint Metro League Stars Division first-team voting with eight selections. The Cavaliers went 5-0 in Stars dual meets – Brandon was second with a 3-2 record – before easily winning the league meet with 202.5 points to Brandon’s 95. FLINT – Linden might have finished second in the Metro League softball standings but the Eagles led the all-league voting with six first-team selections. Third-place Clio had three first-team picks while league champion Owosso had two. Owosso won the league championship with a 21-1 record, Linden was second with a 20-2 mark and Clio tied Fenton for third place with a 15-6 record. Here is the All-Metro team selected by the league coaches. Hannah Bollinger helped Linden to a second-place finish in the Metro League softball race.

White pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in juvenile court and will serve one year of juvenile probation. The opinion by the majority in the Appeals Court ruling was that the prosecutor’s request to move to dismiss charges and move the case to juvenile court was within the scope of Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office’s authority. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton previously said the case should have been decided two years ago. Payne earned his GED, participated in the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department’s IGNITE program and operates a lawn and landscaping business with his father. Jenna Schroeder and Natalie Sago made up two-thirds of the officiating crew that night. She started refereeing when she was 17 to make some extra money, but now it’s her dream job and she’s breaking down barriers. There are currently five full-time women as referees in the NBA and two others who are not on staff during this season. Schroeder said women empowering women and supporting each other is how to break into male-dominated worlds. “I want my daughter to think her mom is strong enough to break barriers and do whatever she has to do,” Schroeder said.

CLIO, Mich. – High Times is bringing the annual Cannabis Cup to Clio in June. The event will be held June 8 and 9 at the Auto City Speedway. Because cannabis has been legalized in Michigan, anyone over the age of 21 can attend this year. The Cannabis Cup brings together people in the cannabis industry and crowns winners in different categories. In past events, competitions have been held for best booth, best glass, best product, best edible, best preroll and more.
