NFL rumors: Peyton Manning could bolt ESPN to become part-owner of former AFC power
Another week, another rumor about the future of Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. Last week, Front Office Sports reported Amazon wants to steal the “ManningCast,” ESPN’s alternate broadcast of Monday Night Football which is anchored by Manning and his brother, former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. This week, it’s the Denver Broncos which could come calling for Peyton Manning, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora. Sources said former Broncos star quarterback Peyton Manning, who is very interested in a potential ownership piece in the franchise and a possible role in serving in a management position as well, has already had discussions with several of the groups expected to be favorites to land the team, and his strong ties to Denver, where his family has lived since his playing days, and universal respect throughout the football world, would be a boon to any potential ownership group aligned with him. La Canfora reports the sale of the Broncos “could be fast-tracked to be completed by the spring, with a formal vote not out of the question by the March league meetings.mlive.com

Broncos coach: Dan Campbell ‘classy’ for his role in Demaryius Thomas tribute to open game
DENVER -- After Demaryius Thomas died unexpectedly this week, the Denver Broncos began to plan a tribute to their former great. And head coach Vic Fangio phoned Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell over the weekend to help pull it off. Fangio wanted to open the game with the so-called “missing man” formation, sending just 10 players onto the field in honor of the late receiver. What’s being said nationally after banged-up Detroit Lions get beat 38-10 by Denver Broncos
The short-handed Detroit Lions (1-11-1) couldn’t overcome their mistakes against the Denver Broncos (7-6), losing 38-10 in Week 14 action. Detroit kept things close in the first half, but an early second-half fumble spelled disaster, with the Broncos scoring 24 unanswered points to run away. The Lions were without their top running backs in D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, not to mention No. 1 pass-catcher T.J. Hockenson. They were also without starting safety Tracy Walker, then went on to lose starters Jerry Jacobs and Alex Anzalone to injuries in the first half.mlive.com
T.J. Hockenson among stunning 22 Lions players sidelined by illness or injury in Denver
The Detroit Lions have ruled out their Pro Bowl tight end for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. Hockenson is dealing with a hand injury he suffered in the win last week against Minnesota. Hockenson’s injury is yet another hit for a roster that has been decimated by injury and illness. That’s 11 players who have been knocked out, and that doesn’t account for the 11 players who are injured reserve. The bad news is the Lions are still without 22 players due to illness or injury, leaving Dan Campbell and his staff in a tough spot as they pursue their second win of the season.mlive.com
