Gov. Whitmer meets with Patrick Lyoya’s family, offers condolences
GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Gov. Gretchen Whitmer offered her condolences to the family of Patrick Lyoya during a private meeting in Grand Rapids. Patrck Lyoya was shot and killed following an April 4 traffic stop in a Southeast Grand Rapids neighborhood. Siku, the interpreter, said the parents’ meeting with the governor was emotional at times. Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy at the funeral for Patrick Lyoya scheduled for Friday in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Flanked by noted civil-rights attorney Ben Crump, the parents of a Black man who was shot and killed by Grand Rapids police said they were heart broken and believed the officer should be prosecuted. The killing has sparked protests in Grand Rapids. Taylor, who grew up in Grand Rapids, was fatally shot March 13, 2020, by Louisville Metro Police using a “no-knock” search warrant. The Grand Rapids police chief said he expected that a civil lawsuit would be filed. Once the state police investigation is complete, Grand Rapids Police Department’s Internal Affairs will investigate.
