ANN ARBOR – Kamren Flowers turned heads with his speed on the track as a freshman and now he’s caught the eye of Big Ten football team during his sophomore year on the field. The 6-foot, 165-pound receiver’s speed has translated to the football field this season as he has emerged as one of the River Rats’ top offensive threats. He has more than 300 receiving yards and 27.6 per catch and four touchdowns in addition to three kickoff return TDs to help the River Rats to a 5-3 record this season. On the track, Flowers finished 16th in the 100 (11.35) and 10th in the 200 (22.45) at the Division 1 state finals last spring. YPSILANTI – Mitchell Tomasek opened his sophomore season with a strong performance last week. The Eastern Michigan punter claimed Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week honors in last week’s win over Eastern Kentucky. Tomasek earned the award after averaging 42-yards per punt on three punts, including pinning Eastern Kentucky inside its own 3-yard line in the victory. Tomasek, a Columbus, Ohio native, had a long of 51-yards in the game and claimed the POW honor for the first time in his career. Eastern Michigan returns to play on Saturday at Louisiana.

Kentucky's attorney general has asked the FBI to formally investigate former Governor Matt Bevin's controversial pardons, two state legislators said Thursday. Last month, federal law enforcement sources confirmed to CBS News that the FBI is looking into the pardons. Melinda Mills, the sister of Baker's victim Donald Mills, told CBS Eastern Kentucky affiliate WMYT, that the family is hoping for some closure. FBI looking into pardons by ex-Kentucky governor Matt BevinMills said she hopes Baker will end up in jail after the investigation. The mother of that child, who asked to remain anonymous to protect her family, told CBS News that she wishes she'd been warned that her daughter's rapist was going free.

Former coal tycoon donates $1M to miners of bankrupt employer
Now, to ease the miners' financial burden, a former coal tycoon has donated over $1 million to directly assist those miners and their families. On Monday, the Richard and Leslie Gilliam Foundation donated over $1 million to give 508 Blackjewel miners in immediate need $2,000 each. The coal operator owes its 1,700 miners about $5 million in back pay, according to attorney Joe Childers, whose firm represents miners in litigation with the employer. Richard Gilliam grew up in the coal mining region, and built his business there. Since selling the coal operating business, Richard Gilliam runs a family investment firm and serves as the director of his foundation.
