EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University officials have released a statement after a black student found toilet paper hanging outside her dorm room that she said resembled a noose. The housing office said they believe the act was not a symbol of hate or discrimination after talking to the students responsible. The Black Student Alliance is holding a meeting Tuesday for students who may be concerned about the incident. Michigan State University spokesperson Emily Guerrant released the following statement:"Two African American students living on campus in the Brody neighborhood reported a racial incident over the weekend regarding toilet paper that was left on their door which they believed resembled a noose. Any student found to be responsible for a bias incident will face disciplinary action via the student conduct system.

LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University says three former men's basketball players have been cleared of wrongdoing in connection with allegations they sexually assaulted a female student in 2015. Spokeswoman Emily Guerrant tells the Lansing State Journal that a report from a school-launched Title IX investigation did not find violations of university policy. ESPN first reported on the findings. Bailey Kowalski also accused school counseling center staff of discouraging her from reporting the rape. EAST LANSING, Mich. - A Michigan State University physiology professor who was suspended after more than half a dozen women accused him of sexual harassment has returned to work at the school that has been beset by allegations of sexual misconduct in recent years. Robert Wiseman, who teaches at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, was suspended without pay from Feb. 22 through April 4, school spokeswoman Emily Guerrant told the Lansing State Journal in a story published Tuesday. Wiseman started working at the East Lansing school in 2001, and the allegations against him date back to 2002, according to the report. The report said Wiseman told investigators the allegations by the women were not specific and he denied acting inappropriately. The complaints against Wiseman were just the latest in a series of sexual assault allegations at Michigan State.

EAST LANSING, Mich. Michigan State University says the school's Sparty mascot will no longer participate in most parades due to concerns about heat stroke or other health issues for those wearing the costume. School spokeswoman Emily Guerrant says in an email the MSU Alumni Office made the decision "due to health concerns for Sparty and his team." The Lansing State Journal says Sparty still is expected to participate in MSU's annual Homecoming Parade in East Lansing unless the weather conditions pose health risks.
