Evgeny Svechnikov, the Detroit Red Wings’ top pick in the 2015 draft, has signed a one-year AHL contract with the Manitoba Moose. Red Wings’ final home games impact Lightning’s playoff seeding
The Detroit Red Wings’ final two home games this weekend will have significant playoff seeding implications for the Tampa Bay Lightning. For the Red Wings, the matchups present more growth opportunities for younger players like Michael Rasmussen, Evgeny Svechnikov, Dennis Cholowski, Filip Zadina and Joe Veleno. The Red Wings (17-26-9) need to win one of their four remaining games – they wrap up with a pair at Columbus next Friday and Saturday – to exceed last season’s win total in significantly fewer games (71 in 2019-20). The Red Wings have scored only three goals in their past two games and will be without key forwards Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi, Robby Fabbri, Bobby Ryan and Adam Erne. Red Wings mailbag: Steve Yzerman’s decision on Jeff Blashill looms
Blashill’s contract expires after this season, his sixth as Red Wings’ head coach. The Red Wings are 169-217-58 under Blashill, who is the third-longest tenured coach with his current team, behind only Tampa Bay’s Jon Cooper and Winnipeg’s Paul Maurice. The Red Wings have won a season-high three games in a row and are 6-3-2 in their past 11. Red Wings play Lightning tough, but futility streak in Tampa extended
Adam Erne continued in his role an unlikely go-to guy for offense Saturday, but the Detroit Red Wings could not end their decade-long drought in Tampa Bay. The Red Wings (12-22-5) settled down after a bad start but didn’t have enough offense to complete the comeback. Erne scored his career-high eighth goal at 4:00 of the third period to cut the Lightning lead to 2-1. The Red Wings pushed in the third period but fell short. This gives them the flexibility of assigning Svechnikov to the taxi squad or the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins if they choose to do so. Red Wings tight defensively, beat Columbus for weekend sweep
DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings were as tight and stingy defensively this weekend as they have been all season, resulting in back-to-back victories for only the third time in 2021. Detroit outshot Columbus 29-17, limiting the Blue Jackets to 38 shots and few scoring opportunities in the two games. The Blue Jackets (13-15-8) made no gains in their push for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Central Division. Svechnikov opened the scoring at 10:40 of the first, a period in which the Red Wings outshot the Blue Jackets 7-3. Evgeny Svechnikov joins Red Wings taxi squad
DETROIT – Evgeny Svechnikov -- the 19th overall pick in 2015 -- did not make the Red Wings roster after he was hurt and missed much of that short training camp in January. He cleared, of course, but it wasn’t the best situation for a player who we all expected to be an impact for the Red Wings, especially at this point. So here we are -- will this be his last opportunity with the Red Wings organization? Smith, 22, appeared in 8 games with the Red Wings this season -- 1 goal and 3 assists. Abdelkader has that hefty contract that does not look good sitting on the 4th line. There's also Madison Bowey, who the Red Wings acquired through the Nick Jensen trade in February. Who is actually going to be playing for the Red Wings?
