Tigers hiring Giants GM to lead baseball operations
DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have hired San Francisco Giants general manager Scott Harris to lead the club’s baseball operations department. The Tigers have been searching for a new leader since longtime general manager Al Avila was let go last month. He had the title of general manager, although he was below Farhan Zaidi, the Giants’ president of baseball operations, in the club hierarchy. Prior to joining the Giants, Harris spent seven years working in the Chicago Cubs’ baseball operations department, working his way up to assistant general manager under Theo Epstein. Avila had spent two decades in the Tigers’ organization and was hired in 2015 to replace Dave Dombrowski as general manager.mlive.com
Giants plan to exercise Posey's $22M option if he will play
The San Francisco Giants plan to exercise Buster Posey's $22 million club option for the 2022 season as long as the veteran catcher wants to keep playing after a stellar year. Posey, whose contract includes a $3 million buyout, helped lead the Giants to a franchise-record 107 wins and their first NL West title since 2012 by playing regularly down the stretch this year as he demonstrated his health and durability during his 12th major league season. Versatile INF La Stella, Giants reach $18.75M, 3-year deal
(AP Photo/Ashley Landis)SAN FRANCISCO – Versatile infielder Tommy La Stella completed an $18.75 million, three-year contract with the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, giving the club a reliable left-handed hitter with a track record of getting on base. Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi values versatility, and La Stella provides it. He played 33 games at second base during the shortened 60-game 2020 schedule, 10 at first, six at third and another nine as designated hitter. The contract includes La Stella making yearly donations to the Giants Community Fund of $10,000 this year, $26,250 in ‘22 and $57,500 in ’23. To open room for La Stella on the 40-man roster, San Francisco designated outfielder Luis Alexander Básabe for assignment.

Zaidi said the incident involving the minor leaguers didnt come up before the Giants hired Zaidi last offseason.
