Schwindel was known as a Triple-A masher who didn’t get his first shot at the big leagues until 2019. Schwindel then signed with the Tigers, finishing the season in Triple-A Toledo. He was a member of the Toledo satellite camp in the COVID-shortened 2020 season but never got a chance to play for the Tigers, even after C.J. Aderlin Rodriguez, who was named Triple-A East MVP after a standout season for the Detroit Tigers’ Triple-A affiliate in Toledo, has signed a minor-league deal with the San Diego Padres. Rodriguez, 30, hit .290 with 29 homers and 94 runs batted in for the Mud Hens. He played for the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate in El Paso in 2019 before heading overseas for a brief stint in Japan in 2020. In other news involving ex-Tigers, right-handed pitcher Dereck Rodriguez signed a minor-league contract with the Minnesota Twins.
