Grand Rapids Griffins alum named Florida Panthers’ assistant general manager
It appears that there was a historic hire in the National Hockey League Tuesday, and it involves a former Grand Rapids Griffins player. Brett Peterson, who played for the Griffins in 2008-2009, has been named the assistant general manager of the Florida Panthers. It is believed that Peterson is the first Black assistant general manager in National Hockey League history. In addition, Peterson played two games for the Flint Generals of the International Hockey League, also in 2008-2009. “It’s exciting whenever you get a chance to kind of reignite a boyhood dream of chasing the Stanley Cup, being in the National Hockey League,” Peterson told William Douglas of www.nhl.com.
