Man charged in strangulation death of his mother while on probation for domestic violence
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI – A Dearborn Heights man is charged with first-degree murder in the strangulation death of his mother, which occurred while he was on probation related to a previous domestic violence incident with the same victim, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced. Dearborn Heights Police officers were dispatched to a residence on Pardee Avenue around 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday, the release said. On Nov. 2, Akel was arrested and charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm and misdemeanor domestic violence against his mother. The officer attempted to contact Akel without success and began the process of filing an amended court order. Very unfortunately, he refused to take advantage of the offered help.”Akel was arraigned today in the 20th District Court in Dearborn Heights.
