Michigan Stadium tunnel incident: MSU fined, Michigan reprimanded, 1 player suspended into 2023
In an official statement about the Michigan Stadium tunnel incident, the Big Ten Conference said they would fine Michigan State University, reprimand the University of Michigan, and suspend one player from the Spartans into the 2023 season.
Michigan, Michigan State players fight in postgame tunnel
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A heated rivalry game led to another postgame incident in the Michigan Stadium tunnel. In the moments after Michigan’s 29-7 win over Michigan State on Saturday, players from the two teams were seen scuffling in the tunnel that leads to the two teams’ locker rooms. As Michigan State players exited the field, Michigan defensive back Ja’Den McBurrows was the caught in the middle of a crowd of Spartans players who were seen repeatedly striking him and shoving him. Spartans defensive end Zion Yong, linebacker Itayvion Brown and safety Angelo Grose are among the Spartans players seen in the incident. The Michigan Stadium tunnel has been the site of multiple previous incidents between teams, including one between Michigan and Penn State players this season that caused Nittany Lions coach James Franklin to call for the tunnel protocol to be addressed.

Michigan State football has a new group of players officially with the program. There are 11 other members of the 2021 signing class scheduled to arrive at Michigan State later this summer. Michigan State also just added two walk-on transfers in tight end Powers Warren (Mississippi State), who is the son of Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren, and linebacker Samih Beydoun (Army). Michigan State football began spring practice on Tuesday morning and released an updated roster in the afternoon. Redshirt junior offensive lineman Mustafa Khaleefah, who opted out of last season, is also not on the roster. Tucker previously said five seniors would return in Dotson, defensive ends Jacub Panasiuk and Drew Beesley, center Matt Allen and kicker Matt Coghlin. Tucker indicated in February offensive linemen AJ Arcuri and Luke Campbell could return and both are listed on the spring roster. The same day Michigan State began spring practice, the program picked up another transfer commit for the fall. Itayvion Brown, a transfer linebacker from Minnesota, announced his commitment to the Spartans on Tuesday morning. Michigan State is thin on experience at linebacker and Brown is the second transfer at the position to commit to the team. Michigan State has also lost 17 players to the portal since Nov. 16, including four linebackers.
