Aleksander Barkov scored the Panthers' first of two goals on power plays 3:06 into the opening period, putting them ahead 1-0. Thomas Greiss stopped 23 shots for the Red Wings, extending his winless start with the team. The NHL free agency signing period is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. The Detroit Red Wings could be quite active after offloading several contracts over the past month, most notably buying out forward Justin Abdelkader’s costly salary. Panthers beat Red Wings 4-1 for season-high 4-game streak
DETROIT – Evgenii Dadonov and Mark Pysyk scored late in the first period and the Florida Panthers went on to beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Saturday night. Dylan Larkin scored the 100th goal of his career with the Red Wings, and Jimmy Howard stopped 34 shots. The Red Wings had an extra skater for a fifth time early in the third and failed to take advantage, getting only one shot on Bobrovsky. DETROIT Matt Duchene figured the Nashville Predators deserved better after scoring just once in a loss to the New York Rangers over the weekend. Duchene scored two of Nashvilles five second-period goals, and the Predators easily dispatched the Detroit Red Wings 6-1 on Monday night. It deflected in off the stick of Red Wings defenseman Madison Bowey. Andreas Athanasiou scored in the first period for the Red Wings, who are 1-10-1 in their last 12 games. Duchene scored on a rebound during the ensuing power play.

Maple Leafs beat Red Wings 5-2 to snap 3-game skid

Ilya Mikheyev put the Maple Leafs ahead in the final minute of the second period when goalie Jimmy Howard's gamble backfired, and Toronto went on to beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 on Saturday night, snapping a three-game losing streak. Instead, the Maple Leafs got goals from Mikheyev, Nicholas Shore, Alexander Kerfoot, Jake Muzzin and Trevor Moore. The Maple Leafs tied it when Timashov won a battle for the puck behind the net and found Shore, who had plenty of time to beat Howard from in front. "We thought our work ethic was really good in camp, really good at the start," Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said.

Nick Ritchie scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period, and Anaheim beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 on Tuesday night. Jakob Silfverberg had a goal and an assist and Rickard Rakell also scored for the Ducks. Larkin also hit the goal post for the Red Wings a little less than five minutes into the middle period.

DETROIT The Detroit Red Wings have signed University of Denver goalie Filip Larsson to a three-year entry-level contract. He was selected by the Red Wings in the 6th round (167th overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Larsson played in 22 games for Denver this season in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The 34-year-old goalie has signed a 1-year contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings, the team announced Wednesday. However, the Red Wings decided to sign him before the season ended. That means Howard is making $1.1 million less if the Red Wings don't make the playoffs in 2019-20. Howard was drafted by the Red Wings in 2003 when he was a star at the University of Maine. In parts of 13 seasons with the Red Wings he has appeared in 509 games with a career save percentage of .914.
