Red Wings contain Oilers’ stars but can’t generate enough in 5-2 loss
DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings did a decent job containing a pair of league MVPs on Tuesday, only to be done in by two fourth-liners. The Red Wings, back from a 10-day break, fell to 21-20-8. But the Red Wings didn’t generate enough offense despite getting chances and went 0 for 5 on the power play. Tyler Bertuzzi and Joe Veleno scored for the Red Wings. The Red Wings had killed a pair of penalties preceding that goal.

mlive.comRed Wings-Oilers pits leading NHL scorers and top rookies
The NHL’s two-leading rookie scorers will be trying to defend the league’s two top scorers tonight when the Edmonton Oilers face the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena (7:30, Bally Sports Detroit). “If Larks’ line is out against them, I have no worries in any three of those players, Bert, Larks or Raymond. If you have one line out against them it’s another challenge because of how much they play, and at times they have really long shifts. Your whole team has to be ready to play against them, but I have confidence in Lucas.”Raymond leads NHL rookies with six goals and 14 points. Somebody was showing the goal yesterday and then they went through a whole montage of goals that might rival it.
mlive.comConnor McDavid scores goal of the year, faces Red Wings next
Connor McDavid dangled the puck and skated through four New York Rangers to score what easily could be the goal of the year in the NHL on Friday. McDavid ranks second with 22 points. McDavid won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP last season. Lucas Raymond has six goals and 14 points, including five points (two goals, three assists) in the past three games. He’s an incredible guy, a quiet guy, but when you start peeling back the layers, he’s funny, he’s smart, he’s just a great teammate and someone who never lost confidence in himself.

NHL awards regular-season trophies for season cut short
Washington's Alex Ovechkin and Boston's David Pastrnak share the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy the league announced Thursday, May 28, 2020. (AP Photo/Winslow Townson, File)Since the NHL is planning to go straight to the playoffs, it's handing out a handful of trophies for the regular season cut short by the coronavirus pandemic. Not long after unveiling a 24-team right to the playoffs format, the league on Thursday announced the winners of its regular-season awards. Although Ovechkin was stopped short of a ninth 50-goal season, his ninth goal-scoring title extends his NHL record. The benefit and the curse of a bye, I suppose.___For more AP NHL coverage: https://apnews.com/NHL and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
