Lawyers are currently in mediation, but Fitzgerald said the $4.3 million the university has spent has been used to defend the university in those lawsuits.

ANN ARBOR, MI — Mediation is set to begin Friday, Oct. 23, between lawyers representing the University of Michigan and victims of alleged sexual abuse by late athletic doctor Robert Anderson. An investigation into Anderson began in 2018 when former UM wrestler Tad Deluca sent a letter to UM Athletic Director Warde Manuel detailing instances of sexual assault. Through mediation, Martin said she and her firm, Lieff Cabraser Heimann and Bernstein, LLP, are asking for institutional reform to make sure something like this never happens again. CBS Detroit – Updated 9/17/2020- The University of Michigan faculty senate held a vote Wednesday concerning the leadership of President Mark Schlissel. UofM’s faculty senate rules dictate there must be a majority over 50% to pass. Today in a report by the University Record, UofM Faculty Senate leaders are reviewing the results of the vote. In light of Wednesday’s vote, Schlissel and his staff acknowledge there needs to be greater communication at UofM. The Faculty Senate is part of UofM’s central governance system with about 4,300 members which include faculty, librarians, full-time research faculty, executive officers, and deans.

The professor alerted multiple University officials. The report claims multiple women told the law firm they made efforts to avoid Philbert and one woman even quit her job because of his conduct.

Martin Philbert was fired as provost in March, weeks after being placed on leave. Philbert disclosed his retirement in a June 7 letter to President Mark Schlissel, the university said. The university has said the sexual misconduct allegations against Philbert dont involve students. He joined the university in 1995 as a toxicology professor and eventually became dean of the School of Public Health.
