The Exeter Township Historical Society has relocated a century-old wooden barn next to the historic McGowan Schoolhouse in Maybee. On May 30, the society relocated the barn built in the 1920s from 5568 Scofield-Carleton Rd. The $16,000 moving effort was funded with an $8,000 grant from the Monroe County Historical Commission, $6,000 from the society and a $2,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Monroe County, according to Anne Kleinow, president of the historical society. The couple had no further use for the three-stall barn and agreed to donate the barn to the society, rather than have the structure demolished, Anne Kleinow said.

4-year-old boy killed in Monroe County car crash
RAISINVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. Michigan State Police are investigating a car crash that killed a 4-year-old boy on Saturday afternoon. The mans 4-year-old son was in a booster seat and wearing a seatbelt in the backseat of the passenger side of the Nissan, officials said. Troopers say the boy was unresponsive at the scene and was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The boys father and the 37-year-old Maybee woman driving the Jeep were also transported to the hospital and treated for their injuries, officials said. No additional details were provided regarding the cause of the crash.
