Red Wings, Alex Nedeljkovic shut down Devils 3-0

The Detroit Red Wings turned in the type of staunch defensive performance Sunday they anticipated would be more common this season. Alex Nedeljovic needed to make only 17 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and the Red Wings defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-0 at the Prudential Center. The Red Wings are 3-0 in offside challenges and 6-3 in total challenges. Red Wings solve Vasilevskiy, surprise Lightning 4-3

Jakub Vrana scored his second goal of the game to snap a tie in the third period Tuesday and the Detroit Red Wings finally solved goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 and Amalie Arena. Vasilevskiy entered the game with a career record of 13-0-0 against the Red Wings. It was the Red Wings’ first game since Dylan Larkin’s season ended Monday following core muscle surgery and they didn’t struggle for offense like they did the previous two games (outscored 10-1). The Red Wings have split four games during a rugged six-game stretch that continues Thursday at Florida. The Red Wings scored the next three goals.

Lightning strike twice on power play, beat Red Wings in overtime

DETROIT – Braydon Point scored at 2:32 of overtime Saturday and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 at Little Caesars Arena. Tampa Bay (40-18-6) scored twice on the power play while the Red Wings (26-31-8) went 0 for 5 on the man-advantage. Tyler Bertuzzi was called for tripping 51 seconds into overtime, putting the Lightning on the power play. The Red Wings, after failing to convert on their fifth power play, mounted some pressure five-on-five. The Red Wings had a good opportunity to strike first in the opening period with back-to-back power plays.

Oskar Sundqvist, in his Red Wings debut, scored a key empty-net goal with 2:51 remaining. The Red Wings (26-30-7) swept the three-game season series with the Flyers (20-32-11). The Flyers scored twice in the second period to cut their deficit to 3-2 and had a few quality chances to tie it before Vrana scored his second of the game with 1:09 remaining in the period. The Red Wings got off to a good start, scoring twice in the first period and adding a goal early in the second. Oscar Lindblom broke in alone and scored at 7:56, capping a rush and cutting the Red Wings’ lead to 3-2.

The Detroit Red Wings have recouped the second-round pick they dealt to get defenseman Nick Leddy in the offseason, and also added a couple of players. The Red Wings today acquired center Oskar Sundqvist and defenseman Jake Walman, along with a second-round selection in 2023, from the St. Louis Blues for Leddy and Luke Witkowski. Walman (6-2, 215) is a left-shooter who has appeared in 32 games this season (three goals, three assists). He has appeared in 121 playoff games (seven goals, 26 assists). Leddy is the final year of his contract ($5.5 million cap hit) and will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
