Trade deadline: All’s quiet for the Detroit Lions, but they’re open to listening

ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions were always active around the trade deadline during the Quinntricia era, wheeling and dealing for guys like Snacks Harrison and Everson Griffen while shipping away personalities they didn’t like such as Golden Tate and Quandre Diggs. This year, all could be quiet on the Detroit Lions front heading into Tuesday’s trade deadline. “I don’t see anything right now that I can say has got any legs,” head coach Dan Campbell said during a video call on Monday afternoon. Anything could happen, but a deal seems unlikely for a bare-bones roster in the early days of a major overhauling. Harris, a third-round pick in 2019, is currently ranked as the worst safety in the league according to ProFootballFocus.

DK Metcalf burns Eagles, Darius Slay after Jim Schwartz compared him to Calvin Johnson

DK Metcalf could not be stopped on Monday night. The Seahawks wide receiver torched the Eagles defense, including former Lions cornerback Darius Slay and former Lions coach Jim Schwartz, to the tune of 10 catches for 177 yards in Seattle’s 23-17 win. “In my mind I’m not trying to be Megatron, I’m trying to be me. “So, hey, Slay needs to blame his D-coordinator for that.”Metcalf now has 58 catches for 1039 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games this season. And to be fair, his numbers compare favorably to Calvin Johnson early in his career.

Allen, Bills torch Seahawks, win 44-34 in balmy Buffalo

(AP Photo/Jeffrey T. Barnes)ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Josh Allen regained his early-season groove by throwing three touchdown passes and scoring one rushing, and the Buffalo Bills beat the Seattle Seahawks 44-34 on Sunday. The Bills offense came alive after Allen combined for just 846 yards passing and five touchdowns — including one rushing — in splitting the previous four games. It was just the eighth time since Week 9 of the 2011 season the Carroll-led Seahawks have lost by 10 points or more. Allen carved up a Seahawks defense that entered allowing 28.5 points per game and had already surrendered 500 yards of offense three times this season. For Buffalo, the entire Bills team continued its season-long decision to stay in the locker room for the anthem.

Ford Field ‘dead’ as Lions lose seventh straight home game for first time since 2008-09

They’ve now lost seven straight games at Ford Field, their longest home skid since they dropped nine straight during those very dark days of 2008-09. “I mean there is nothing (to it) other than execution and trying to win a game," quarterback Matthew Stafford said. The Lions consider themselves playoff contenders, yet teams don’t usually make the playoffs while struggling to win a single game at home. In fact, none of the last 96 playoff teams had a losing home record. They allowed 21 straight points in an opening-day loss to Mitchell Trubisky -- who has since been benched by the Bears -- before allowing 35 straight points to New Orleans in Week 4 and now 20 straight points to the Colts.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) leaves the field after an NFL football game against the Seattle Seahawks, Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, in Glendale, Ariz. Seattle led all of regulation until Gonzalez made a 44-yard field goal as time expired to tie it at 34. Moments later, it appeared Seattle had won on the ensuing drive when DK Metcalf caught a 48-yard touchdown pass, but the play was called back because of holding on receiver David Moore. Christian Kirk caught an 8-yard touchdown pass with 2:28 left to pull Arizona to 34-31. Seattle cruised 75 yards in just six plays, finishing with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Wilson to Lockett.

Seahawks stuff Newton on final play, beat Patriots 35-30

Collier stuffed Cam Newton at the 1-yard line on the final play, and the Seattle Seahawks held off the New England Patriots 35-30 on Sunday night. But Newton took over the final minutes and yet another Seahawks-Patriots matchup was decided in the closing moments on a play snapped at the 1. On the final play, Newton tried to run power to the left, but was upended by Collier in the biggest play of his young career. The entire night in a normal setting would have left CenturyLink Field shaking with delirium, especially after the final play. Newton found Harry but was stopped at the 1 and New England used its final timeout, setting the stage for the final play.

Myers gave Seattle (8-2) its second straight overtime win after Russell Wilson got the Seahawks into position with an 18-yard scramble on third-and-3. The Seahawks blew a chance to win the game on the opening possession of overtime when Wilson was intercepted at the 4 by Dre Greenlaw. The teams then traded punts, the Seahawks took over at their 36 with 1:25 remaining and drove for the winning score. The Lions currently sit in mediocrity with a 3-3-1 record (but hey, no last place in the NFC North anymore. The Lions are currently ninth in the NFC standings, with Seattle and Minnesota holding down the last Wild Card spots at 6-2. Is that too much of a deficit for the Lions to overcome over their last nine games of the season with winnable games upcoming? Should the Lions be buyers and give up draft capital to address glaring needs, especially at running back with Kerryon Johnson likely out for the season? It's going to be a hectic Monday and Tuesday before the trade deadline for the Lions front office deciding exactly what direction to take.

Lions Trade Safety Quandre Diggs

Seattle has major depth worries at safety after Bradley McDougald and Lano Hill missed Sundays loss to Baltimore with injuries. He can play free safety and nickel and could be an option after free safety Tedric Thompson has struggled in coverage at times this season. Diggs started 40 games in four-plus seasons with the Lions. Johnson left Sundays loss to Minnesota with a knee injury.
