Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person who shot Santana the cat with an arrow.

The case of a Texas man who was reported as a missing teenager in 2015 and found last week took an unexpected turn Thursday when police revealed it all was a hoax.

Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana is returning to Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston one year after he collapsed on that same stage due to heat exhaustion.

Santana, who runs an organization that helps community leaders fleeing violence to settle in Bogota, is one of the thousands of activists assigned some sort of government protection. Now 46, he's spent half of his life promoting human rights and fighting against illegal mining and corruption in his province. The U.N. high commissioner for human rights, Michelle Bachelet, recently urged the government to increase protection for activists in rural areas.

Law enforcement also will be allowed to use discretion to issue a citation and release a suspect from custody for most misdemeanors.

Newly identified electric eel is the most powerful ever found, say scientists. Researchers at Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History have identified two new species of electric eel in the Amazon rainforest, tripling the known number of electric eel species. What are electric eels? Scientists long thought the electric eels found in swamps, streams, creeks and rivers across South America were all the same species. The newly discovered electric eel species could have evolved unique systems to produce electricity -- perhaps a different system than the first discovered species -- which could lead to more discoveries, de Santana said.
