Demolition crews began tearing down the long-vacant Southwest Detroit Hospital on Friday, marking the first step toward construction of Detroit City Football Club’s new 15,000-seat stadium.

The Detroit City Football Club has bought the land on which the old, decaying Southwest Hospital sits in Corktown.

Following the move to Corktown, Detroit will be one of the very few cities that has MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL and United Soccer League teams playing in stadiums within its city boundaries.

In just a decade, they’ve gone from small-time start-up to the toast of the town. And after Tuesday (April 19) night’s win over an MLS team, it’s safe to say the Detroit City Football Club has really arrived.

Detroit City FC is on a roll and they’ll now be moving up in the world of soccer.

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. - A new women's soccer team will begin playing in the spring, the Detroit City Football Club announced this weekend. The Detroit City FC women's team, which will be part of United Women's Soccer, will play its games at Hamtramck's Keyworth Stadium. The women's season will run from May through July. DCFC season tickets will provide entrance to the women's games. Season tickets for 2020 go on sale Monday.

The soccer team announced it will be going pro after it was accepted into the National Independent Soccer Association.
