Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson loses defensive rookie of the year to Sauce Gardner
Aidan Hutchinson did everything he could to re-enter the conversation, but it wasn’t enough to supplant New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner for NFL defensive rookie of the year. The Detroit Lions rookie edge defender was runner-up, with Gardner winning by a healthy margin. “Last but not least, I got to thank Detroit -- the east side of Detroit, man,” Gardner said during his acceptance speech. He also set the league record for rookie defensive linemen by grabbing three interceptions. The Lions rookie was the top-ranked first-year edge defender, though, not to mention 21st overall at his position.
