Detroit man, woman charged with murder, accused of dumping body in the woods
DETROIT -- Prosecutors have charged two Detroit residents in the murder of 55-year-old Michelle O’Neal, also of Detroit, whose body was found in a wooded area last month. Smith is facing charges of one count of first-degree murder, one count of felon in possession and two counts of felony firearm. Burgess faces one count of first-degree murder, one count of felony firearm, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of third-degree arson. On July 12, around 5 p.m., Detroit Police were called to the intersection of Hyde and Helen where they discovered O’Neal’s body with a gunshot wound to the head. Prosecutors allege that Smith and Burgess put the body in the wooded area before fleeing the scene.
