mlive.comBen Raven’s final 2022 NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions get electric pass rusher, mean wideout
The Detroit Lions beat here at MLive did two mock drafts apiece this offseason (Check out Kyle Meinke’s final one). The Oregon pass rusher looks to have all the potential you want in such a highly-drafted edge defender. But he comes with elite production and hard-to-miss natural ability. He’s got the things you need to be an elite quarterback in this league. He’s a crisp route-runner that found ways to generate elite production in Ohio State’s crowded room.

This is the seventh of an eight-part series previewing the Detroit Lions’ positional needs and priorities heading into the NFL draft, which is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday in Las Vegas. 2: Hutchinson, Thibodeaux, Walker, JohnsonFirst-round possibilities for Detroit at No. The Lions did re-sign Charles Harris, last year’s sack leader, to a two-year deal in free agency. He isn’t a perfect prospect, but he’s as close as it gets in this draft for Detroit. If Jacksonville does take Hutchinson, the Lions could turn to Thibodeaux, Walker or perhaps Johnson.

mlive.com2022 NFL Draft odds: Aidan Hutchinson no longer favorite to go #1 overall. See who is.
No, it’s not the first week of Training Camp or the preseason or Week 1, but the 2022 NFL Draft will take place this week in Las Vegas. For the majority of the lead-up to the draft, Michigan’s star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson has been the favorite to go #1 overall. As of Monday morning, the odds had flipped, with Walker now the -170 favorite while Hutchinson is now +165 to be drafted by Jacksonville. Walker, similarly to Hutchinson, is a gifted pass-rusher and many NFL scouts believe Jacksonville cannot go wrong with either player. mlive.comKyle Meinke’s final 2022 NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions supercharge defense with pass rusher, safety
If true, the Lions can hop into a gondola at the Bellagio and run their selection to Roger Goodell right now. Hutchinson is probably the safest pick of them all, and especially for where the Lions is at right now in this rebuild. Cincinnati, on the other hand, can’t afford to leave this draft without material upgrades in its protection for Joe Burrow. Linebacker is a big need, but then again, so is safety, where the Lions have Tracy Walker and not much else. He’s long, he’s fast, he hits hard, and he can play all over the defense.
mlive.comWhy I think the Detroit Lions will take Aidan Hutchinson with the No. 2 pick in NFL draft
So I’ll leave the Jacksonville pick to the experts, and they seem to think Walker is the guy. That’s a pure gamble, and given the state of the Lions’ roster/rebuild, that’s not a gamble they can afford to make. “I think that’s a little bit of a knock on Thibodeaux, is there’s times where the effort kind of comes and goes a little bit. You don’t ever see that with Hutchinson.”It’s a tough year to project what will happen in the NFL draft. But if Aidan Hutchinson really is there, as the experts now expect, here’s betting it won’t be a tough choice at all for Detroit.

Kiper handled even-numbered selections, so he had Picks 2, 32, 34 and 66 for the Detroit Lions. He sent Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker to Detroit at Pick 2 after mocking Aidan Hutchinson to the Jacksonville Jaguars to get things started. mlive.comDetroit Lions will reportedly host Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton for pre-draft visit
The Detroit Lions have been linked to just about every top defensive prospect for their reported pre-draft visits. Detroit hosted edge defenders Jermaine Johnson II (Florida State) and Kayvon Thibodeaux (Oregon) to open the week. They will host Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton for one of its 30 pre-draft visits later this week per NFL Network. Hamilton has been sent to Detroit in mock drafts every step of the way from a small contingent. And that’s top to bottom, that’s across the board, that’s not always just the athletic ability, that’s the other things. Still, some are holding the line with Aidan Hutchinson falling to the Lions at Pick 2. Lloyd had 111 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, seven sacks, four interceptions and two defensive touchdowns last year. Brisker notched 63 tackles, six for loss and two interceptions for the Nittany Lions. mlive.comReport: CB Derek Stingley Jr., a likely top-10 pick, will have pre-draft visit with Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are doing their due diligence regarding the top two cornerbacks in the fast-approaching NFL draft. NFL Network reports the Lions will have one of their 30 pre-draft visits with LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. next week. Detroit is also expected to host Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner next week. But, it’s worth remembering that his status as a Detroit native makes him a local prospect that shouldn’t count against the team’s allotted pre-draft visits. Known visits on the books other than Stingley and Gardner include Oregon pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker, Missouri State defensive lineman Eric Johnson and Oklahoma linebacker Brian Asamoah.
mlive.comDetroit Lions to reportedly host Oregon EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux on pre-draft visit
The Detroit Lions are getting another up-close look at one of the top names to watch for their second pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Kayvon Thibodeaux will meet with the Detroit Lions next week on a pre-draft visit, according to NFL Network. It’s worth noting the Lions reportedly sent seven people to watch Thibodeaux at Oregon’s Pro Day earlier this week. “Yeah, he had a productive game that game,” Holmes said at the combine. Gardner is a local prospect as a Detroit native, so he shouldn’t count against the team’s 30 pre-draft visits.
mlive.comDetroit Lions reportedly hosting Georgia DL Travon Walker on pre-draft visit
ALLEN PARK -- Another Detroit Lions pre-draft visit has leaked, and it’s a big one. Walker finished with 9.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss in 29 games at Georgia, which doesn’t exactly scream top-five pick. “Playing at the end at the University of Georgia is very different,” Walker said of his sack numbers. And it’s really a good thing that you can do all of that, playing defensive end at the University of Georgia. If you can play defensive end at the University of Georgia, it means a lot.”No doubt about that.
mlive.comESPN’s Todd McShay gets Detroit Lions a disruptor, quarterback and safety in 2-round mock draft
ESPN’s Todd McShay doesn’t think the Detroit Lions should take a quarterback at Pick 2. McShay has Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson to the Jacksonville Jaguars to get things started, then sent Georgia’s Travon Walker to Detroit. McShay then sends Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder to the Lions at Pick 32. McShay then sends Michigan defensive back Daxton Hill to Detroit at Pick 34 at the top of Round 2. “Hill probably belongs in the first round, but the Lions get lucky with the smooth, speedy safety on Day 2,” McShay writes.
mlive.comAdd ESPN’s Todd McShay’s name to those doubting chances Detroit Lions go quarterback at Pick 2
ESPN’s veteran draft analysts are among the most notable names doubting the Detroit Lions and the likelihood they target a quarterback at the top of April’s draft. Mel Kiper said the Lions would be wise to avoid the position at Pick 2 during a recent conference call with reporters. “And that you’ve got other needs, certainly at the quarterback position, which I do not think they will address at that No. And while McShay doesn’t love the idea of Willis to Detroit, he’s all about the quarterback’s ceiling and ability to make plays with his feet. There are so many things that he still has to learn about playing the quarterback position.
