‘B.A.P.S.’ star Natalie Desselle Reid dies at 53

LOS ANGELES – Natalie Desselle Reid, who starred alongside Halle Berry in the 1997 film “B.A.P.S.” and on the sitcom “Eve,” has died. Reid’s death on Monday was confirmed by Je’Caryous Johnson, the CEO of Je’Caryous Entertainment, which was planning a stage adaption of “B.A.P.S.” A rep for the actor's family said she died after a battle with colon cancer. In the film “B.A.P.S,” Reid and Berry played the roles of two waitresses at a Georgia food diner who decide to fly to Los Angeles for a music video audition. The tandem ended up living a luxury lifestyle as “Black American Princesses” while caring for an elderly Beverly Hills millionaire. Johnson said Reid was looking forward to bringing her role as Mickey in the film back to life.

ATLANTA – Thousands of people jammed roads for miles in Atlanta on Sunday to try to get boxes of food and gift cards donated by entertainer Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry Studios said they had enough boxes of canned vegetables and $25 gift cards for 5,000 families to drive through and pick up. The studio said it was out of food by 10 a.m. Sunday. The line started forming Saturday and at one point stretched for 5 miles (8 kilometers) south of downtown Atlanta, media outlets reported. Volunteers in protective equipment were handing out the food and gift cards.

Celebs take to streets for historic demonstrations

The three-hour show, hosted by Steve Harvey for the fifth year, will be broadcast on Fox and Telemundo. The show will end with reigning champion Catriona Gray of the Philippines crowning her successor. Perry opened his 330-acre (134-hectare) studio earlier this month.

Michael Jordan pledges $1M to help battered Bahamas

"I am devastated to see the destruction that Hurricane Dorian has brought to the Bahamas, where I own property and visit frequently," Jordan said in a statement from his manager, Estee Portnoy, on Twitter. Jordan also gave a $2 million donation to support North Carolina after Hurricane Florence last year. The NBA GOAT joins other celebrities who have donated money to the Bahamas after Dorian. Hurricane Dorian left more than 70,000 people homeless in the Bahamas, and at least 50 people have died.
