It's been six decades since the Voting Rights Act was enacted.

Viola Liuzzo, a Detroit civil rights icon, was honored this weekend with the unveiling of a secondary street in her name. The street is near Pembroke Academy at Pembroke and Mansfield on the city’s west side.

A monument has been unveiled in Detroit that commemorates a white mother slain while doing civil rights work in Alabama in 1965 and the Black friend who helped raise her children after her death.
