Meijer Gardens announces annual summer concert series lineup
GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The annual summer concert series is returning to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park this year with performances by Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, ZZ Top and more. The concert series, featuring 33 shows, kicks off June 12 with a performance by Marc Cohn and Blind Boys of Alabama, and wraps up Sept. 18 with Foreigner. “We are deeply grateful to Steve and Amy Van Andel, Fifth Third Bank, Harvey Lexus of Grand Rapids, Spectrum Health and all our sponsors for helping make this series possible and allowing us to welcome more people to experience live music at Meijer Gardens,” David Hooker, President & CEO of Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, said in a news release. TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. -- National Cherry Festival, a nearly century-old summertime tradition in Northwest Lower Michigan, is returning for eight days in 2022. Highlights of this year’s festival include two U.S. Navy Blue Angels air shows, the Community Royale parade, fireworks, and entertainment headliners Boys II Men, ZZ Top and Jim Gaffigan. TRAVERSE CITY, MI – “That Little Ol’ Band from Texas” is set to perform in Northern Michigan. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top will perform at the 96th National Cherry Festival in Traverse City at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8. Until recently, ZZ Top was the longest running major rock band with original personnel intact. The bearded, sunglasses-wearing group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. on Jan. 28 in three tiers: General admission for $45, reserved tickets starting at $60 and VIP Deck packages starting at $170.

ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill, one of the Texas blues trio’s bearded figures, died at his Houston home, the band announced Wednesday on Facebook. In their post, guitarist Billy Gibbons and drummer Frank Beard said Hill died in his sleep. At that time, the band said its longtime guitar tech, Elwood Francis, would fill in on bass, slide guitar and harmonica.
