19-year-old driver killed when car crashes into tree along Lodge Freeway

DETROIT – A 19-year-old driver was killed when his car struck a tree along the Lodge Freeway, officials said.

The crash happened at 12:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, along the northbound lanes of the Lodge at I-94.

Police said a Battle Creek teenager was driving a Nissan Altima and lost control. The car went up the embankment and crashed into a tree.

When Michigan State Police troopers arrived, they said the teen was unresponsive and didn’t have a pulse. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation has been passed on to the medical examiner.
