Police said a white BMW was heading south when it left the road to the right, went into a ditch, and crashed into a tree behind the parking lot of the 600 Stephenson Highway building.

The 21-year-old man driving the BMW was ejected from the car, officers said. Police performed CPR before the man was taken to a nearby hospital.

He died from his injuries, police said.

A 19-year-old passenger from the BMW was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery. Officers said he is stable and expected to recover.

The Troy Police Department said their early investigation suggests speed was a factor in the crash.

Three lanes of southbound I-75 were shut down for several hours during the investigation. They reopened around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
