Children injured in crash at Schaefer, Pembroke

DETROIT – Several children were injured Wednesday morning in a crash involving multiple vehicles on Detroit’s west side.

The crash happened at the corner of Schaefer Highway and Pembroke Avenue.

A witness said a Saturn Outlook was heading southbound on Schaefer Highway and drove through the red light at Pembroke Avenue, crashing into a Ford Explorer. Police believe the Saturn Outlook was at fault.

A total of six children suffered minor injuries in the crash. One child was pinned in a vehicle and had to be extricated.

The crash happened one block from Vernor Elementary School, where all six children were headed.
