Police investigating accidential shooting on Detroit's west side

Detroit police say a child is in the hospital after accidentally shooting herself with an unsecured handgun. It happened around 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026, on Artisan Street on the city’s west side. EMS rushed the child to a hospital; she’s expected to be okay. Police say an adult was home at the time. The investigation is ongoing.
