How new center in Oakland County helps families living with autism

April is Autism Awareness Month, and if you have a loved one with autism, you know how hard it can be to get help. One in 31 children has autism. Four years ago, that number was one in 44. And for families trying to get answers, waitlists can stretch more than a year before a child even gets a diagnosis, let alone treatment. One organization is trying to fix that. Easterseals MORC is opening a brand-new Autism Comprehensive Care Center in Waterford, and it’s designed to be a true one-stop shop. Behavioral health, speech and occupational therapy, and mental health support for parents and siblings, too. Another unique feature: There are simulated apartments, grocery stores and a dental office inside the building. So kids can practice real-world skills in a safe environment. Brent Wirth, the CEO of Easterselas MORC, joined LocaL 4 Live to talk about the center.
