How a lake sturgeon named Washago became Metro Detroit's most unlikely classroom teacher
Washago, a young lake sturgeon raised through a Huron-Clinton Metroparks and Sturgeon for Tomorrow educational program, toured Metro Detroit schools to teach students about conservation and Michigan’s threatened native species. After visiting nine schools and appearing on Local 4 Live, Washago is set to be released into Lake Huron during Sturgeon Fest, an event aimed at restoring the region’s sturgeon population and raising awareness about their endangered status.
