Haven in Pontiac supports sexual assault survivors with medical, emotional care

June 13 is national abused women and children’s awareness day. For survivors of sexual assault, the hours immediately after an attack can be overwhelming. Many don’t know where to turn, what comes next, or even whether they want to report what happened. At Haven in Pontiac, a specialized team of forensic nurses helps survivors navigate those first critical hours with medical care, emotional support, and, when appropriate, evidence collection. Kimberly Gill spent the Friday afternoon with the nurses who do this work and found their mission goes far beyond collecting a rape kit.
