Waterford’s new thermal drone spots hidden fire dangers before they turn deadly
Waterford’s fire crews are now using a new thermal imaging drone to detect hidden fire hotspots and structural dangers that aren’t visible to the naked eye. The drone provides real-time heat signatures from above, helping commanders spot hazards like smoldering fires or potential roof collapses and allowing them to direct crews more safely and effectively. The technology is deployed at every active fire by the department’s trained Fire Prevention and Fire Investigation Division, with a strict policy against surveillance use.
