Man runs over cop, abandons lawnmower in police chase over stolen plants in Eastpointe, cops say

A man led a police chase early Friday morning in what officials said began over stolen plants. Police responded to English Gardens at 9 Mile and Kelly in Eastpointe for a report of someone stealing plants at the store. Officers pulled over a pickup truck hauling a trailer with a lawnmower attached. When police told the driver he was being arrested over the alleged stolen plants, he sped off. While the suspect was driving away, an officer was run over by the trailer in the process. The officer is expected to be okay. Police chased after the driver to 8 Mile and Mount. During the chase, the trailer detached from the pickup truck after a tire blew out, leaving the lawnmower abandoned in the middle of the road. The chase later continued on foot, where the suspect allegedly threw lawn chairs and other items at police in the process. He was eventually tased and arrested.
