DETROIT – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tornado Watch for Detroit and all of Southeast Michigan until 6pm. In fact, virtually all of southern Michigan, from the Saginaw Valley westward and south to the Michigan state line is under a Tornado Watch. There is a risk of severe thunderstorms today, especially this afternoon, and Michiganders must be on the lookout for any tornadic activity.
In addition, a Flood Watch is in effect through Friday morning for Detroit and Southeast Michigan as another round of showers and thunderstorms weather is in the forecast.

"Warm," "windy," and "stormy" are three words to remember today. Up to 3pm, skies will be mostly cloudy with a few spotty showers and storms and temperatures rising quickly from the 40s to the middle 70s. A strong southwest wind at 20 to 30 mph will blow in the much warmer air.
Here is how the storm timeline breaks down:
- Starting between 3pm and 4pm, a line of showers and thunderstorms will develop in Southwest Michigan and Indiana and move eastward.
- Between 4pm and 6pm, storms will move through Livingston, Washtenaw and Lenawee Counties.
- After 5pm and 6pm, the storms will plow through the rest of Southeast Michigan, including Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties and the City of Detroit.
Any storms that develop will have heavy downpours, damaging wind, dangerous lightning and hail. Anyone with any plans for outdoor activities will have to reconsider them if thunderstorms appear.
