Metro Detroit weather: Flakes and frigid temps

DETROIT – Wind chills are frigid and a few flakes are flying early on your Friday morning.

Most of the snow bands will be moving east through the early morning but be careful driving on some of our newly slickened roads in spots.

The wind chills are in the single digits to low teens with morning temps near 20 degrees only warming into the upper 20s this afternoon. We will see a little bit of sun through a mostly cloudy sky and with an hour or two of more sun than clouds this afternoon, some may see 30 degrees.

The winds will still be a bit pesky today WNW 7-15 mph keeping the wind chills in the teens to low 20s all day. Our North Zone has the best chance at lake effect snow showers coming and going while the rest of us will see mainly flurries through the early afternoon.

Weekend forecast

Saturday will be very cool once again, especially early in the morning. We wake to teens around Metro Detroit under mostly clear skies. The winds are lighter tomorrow and we will see more sun with highs only in the low 30s.  We warm into the mid to upper 40s Sunday starting with sun and finishing with clouds and a little bit of drizzle possible in the late afternoon or evening to end the weekend.

Next week

Light rain is much more probable Monday, but it looks light and temps are mild getting into the low and mid 50s. The winds will start cranking again as we head into Tuesday. It’s a warming wind bringing highs to near 60 degrees on Tuesday with a cold front approaching. That means showers and storms are likely on Tuesday afternoon.  You can always bring the Metro Detroit weather with you with our Local4Casters app.
