Metro Detroit weather: After foggy start, dry and mild air moves in -- for now

The one obstacle you will face as you hit the road early on this Tuesday around Metro Detroit is the fog. It’s that combination of light wind, cool temps, and lingering low level moisture from yesterday all leading to fog and patchy dense fog in spots so be extra careful as you head out knowing visibility will be limited through 8-9 a.m.

Temperatures are just above freezing and should stay that way but a few areas may hit the freezing mark and that fog becomes freezing fog with slick spots on the roads.

Again, right now we are not seeing that but pay close attention to your car-mometer.

Today may be the only day of the week without rain or snow making it pretty much the only day of this week with such a dry feature.

Skies will be partly sunny most of the day with occasional stints of mostly sunny skies and high temperatures will respond here around SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario making it into the mid 50s to near 60 degrees. The higher temps truly depend on enough sunshine busting through our clouds today and that is not a guarantee.

Again, the good news is that we stay dry on this Tuesday with winds SE to ESE 5-12 gusting to near 20mph later this afternoon. We do have rounds of showers ahead and some of that moisture will try to sneak into Metro Detroit later tonight. Your evening plans should be good to go until about 9 p.m. as rain showers arrive from the west and scattered, light rain is possible overnight.

Sunset is at 8:04 p.m.

A very healthy rain maker is gaining strength from the Pacific Northwest and it will bring us the wettest day of the week Wednesday. The bulk of the rain, heavier and steady showers should move in just after the morning drive tomorrow although the roads may still be a bit wet from overnight showers. Rain Wednesday will be in the range of a half an inch so we need to keep an eye on our basements as the ground remains cool and not yet receptive to soak up these Spring showers. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 50s, and if we can break the rain by the mid afternoon, we have a shot at hitting 60 degrees or warmer again. This is a good possibility but not set in stone as far as the timing for the showers to taper off.

Thursday will start sunny before clouds and a cold front move through Metro Detroit and the timing has sped up a bit meaning the clouds will fill in quickly through the early afternoon and that will likely keep our highs from nearing 60 degrees for the third straight day. Instead, look for mid 50s with mid to late afternoon rain shower chances and we cannot rule out a few flakes later Thursday.

Cooler air is coming Friday but it’s not going to be brutally cold for the Detroit Tigers Home Opener at Comerica Park. The Tigers host the White Sox at 1:10 p.m. Friday and this is going to be an interesting weather day… of course. But, plan on rain showers moving through in the afternoon, during the game but no rainouts are yet predicted. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s for tailgating and mid to upper 40s during the game with a decent breeze W 5-15mph.

A few showers may linger into Saturday morning, but conditions should be dry for baseball games on Saturday and Sunday whether it’s at Comerica Park or in your neighborhood Little League.
