Tracking potential wet weather for Metro Detroit this week

4Warn Weather – Good Super Bowl Sunday morning!

Temperatures around Metro Detroit have fallen into the middle to upper 20s, feeling slightly cooler with the weakening winds. You might want to dust off the old pig skin and throw the football outside later today. We really need to get outside today and enjoy some unusually warm weather for the middle of February.

We will see wall-to-wall sunshine around Metro Detroit this afternoon, which makes it difficult to be inside sweating over those snacks for the big game this evening. I don’t think anyone will complain about highs flirting with 50F with no signs of any change over the next few days. Today will be the brightest day we will see over the next week, but most of Monday and Valentine’s Day are looking lovely as well. Some high, harmless clouds will move over SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario overnight with no threat of wet weather.

SUNSET:  6:02 p.m.

Looking ahead to this week’s weather

  • Morning clouds Monday will quickly move east, leaving most of the day mostly sunny for most of Metro Detroit. Morning lows will be in the neighborhood of freezing, and our afternoon highs should stay in the upper 40s to near 50F once again. The winds will start picking up through the afternoon W 10-20mph, adding a little nip to the air.
  • Tuesday is Valentine’s Day, and that mild trend keeps going, with highs still a good 10 to 15 degrees above average. We should see plenty of morning sun with increasing afternoon clouds as temps range from 45F to 50F with a bit of a southerly breeze picking up again. Rain will be moving here either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
  • Showers will make the Wednesday morning commute a bit slippery and slow, but the rain will be moving out as the sunrise leaves most of the day breezy and warmer. Most of our computer model data show some sun returning with highs in the mid-50s to near 60F this coming Hump Day. There’s another round of rain likely late Wednesday into Thursday morning.
  • Thursday looks to be the wettest day of the week ahead, with heavier and more widespread rain through the morning and afternoon with temps still hanging in the 50s. A cold front will sweep through here as we head into Friday and next weekend as a reminder that winter is not done yet.
